Rutooro is a Bantu language spoken mainly by the Tooro people (Batooro) from the Toro Kingdom region of western Uganda. Other closely related languages in the “Nyooro/Ganda” group include: Luganda, Run-yankore, Ruciga, Nyooro, Soga, Gwere.

Runyoro and Rutooro, spoken in western Uganda, belong to the Niger–Congo phylum, are mutually intelligible and exhibit remarkable grammatical affinity and 93% lexical similarity but have different names due to political issues.
